The History

LUMI.NOX is an American success story. There was a time when the industry was dominated fashion watches – 1989 took the two employees Richard Timbo and Barry Cohen decided a new product to develop, with the long-term the market may exist. When they encounter a unique stream independent lighting system from Switzerland met, they recognized the capabilities of this innovative lighting. Thus one could watch in low light conditions or even in complete darkness to read. So they began to develop wristwatches that with the unique lighting system (the so-called Luminox Light Technology, LLT) are equipped, and the LUMI.NOX watch brand was born. It was and is the name of program and combines the Latin words “volume” for light and “nox” night. And the logo plays with the contrasts of light and darkness in the form of white lettering on a black background and vice versa. Through the red is also part of the Swiss flag tribute gezollt.

The Swiss watch entrepreneur André and Ronnie Bernheim, participate in May 2006, replacing founding member Richard Timbo, on the American watch company LUMI.NOX. Thanks to the Swiss Logistics Award 2003 excellent just-in-time production of the Mondaine factory in Solothurn Biberist the clocks are specialized outdoor retailers and shops reliable supplies.

The evolving market for active sportsmen and women called for corresponding models, and so designed a diving watch. At a trade show, they were assisted by a procurement officer in the U.S. Navy SEALs to speak. This explained to them why their technology lighting for night operations so important. Early 1994, the new diving watch, after many months of design to design SEALs presented. Later LUMI.NOX brought this clock as original Navy SEAL Taucheruhr on the American market.

Another happy coincidence played a major role in the inexorable development of the brand LUMI.NOX: One day a relative called Edwards Air Force Base to make them his appreciation for their watches tell. He told them that the stealth bomber pilots of the F-117 NighthawkTM watches LUMI.NOX deceptive and very enthusiastic about the technology were. Then he asked them watches specially for the Air Force to design. Some months later, they presented their first of the aviation-inspired collection, which is the beginning of a close business relationship with Lockheed Martin ®, the company that developed the F-117 NighthawkTM manufactured, represented.

The models are now in more than 30 countries around the world. LUMI.NOX is an American company with a Swiss lighting technology in Switzerland made watches in the world sells.

Technology and Features

All LUMI.NOX – Wristwatches through unlike other clocks additional manufacturing processes. In each clock, a current independent lighting system LUMI.NOX used. This is a costly and time consuming process, but it is precisely this lighting system makes LUMI.NOX watch so unique. Each clock contains tiny self luminous elements, the Swiss world leader in lighting components will be developed. These lighting elements (Borosilikatglaskapseln) are firmly embedded in the hands, the hour mark and, if necessary, turning on the rings of our watches. LUMI.NOX watches need no external light source to the lighting elements on the face or hands “charge” on how to do this from traditional watches with luminous paint knows. There is also no touch necessary in order to illuminate the dial. The U.S. Army has the advantages of the new lighting technology early – their use is supported by the specification MIL-W-46374F U.S. Army requirement.

The current independent lighting system allows an immediate reading of the time, regardless of the lighting conditions, even in complete darkness. This practical use meets the requirements of various military and security officers.

Watch glasses

10:43 AM

Watch glasses
The glasses for watches can be in 3 groups. Plastic lenses, mineral glass and sapphire glass. Each of these types has different characteristics, different application areas and also various fashionable aspects. There is also within these groups different quality standards in the following should be clarified.

Plastic glasses
also Hesalithglas, acrylic or Plexiglas called – consists of the plastic polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). They are relatively lightweight and impact resistant. Disadvantage of plastic glasses is their low hardness, so they are easily scratched.

Mineral glasses
The chemical name for mineral glass is silica SiO2. Good Mineralgäser are not simple window glass. The surface is good mineral glass in the manufacture in a complex procedure chemically hardened. Mineral glasses are much harder than plastic glasses, they are not osmotically and not yellow. But there is also mineral glass damage. Is particularly detrimental when a fraction small glass splinters in the movement reach and cause damage there.

Sapphire glasses
The hardest among Uhrgläsern is undoubtedly the Saphirglas. Sapphire crystals are synthetically by the Verneuil process produced. A small drawback of the sapphire crystal is to increase light refraction of this mineral. It may be more disturbing reflections on the watch shows. Therefore, high-quality sapphire crystals in watches also reflective.

Why do we need a watchwinder?

Uhrenbeweger

Why do we need a clock move?
In recent years, in Germany automatic watches receive strong indentation. Because of the differences to quartz watches take watches collector of automatic watches to other requirements and needs.
A clock will move you need when an automatic, the iM is not worn – as your second or third watch – to move. At the latest after 48 hours would your wristwatch without Watchwinder stand still, and thus lose their accuracy. It is the mover to watch a special pillow or anxious in a holder mounted, which with the help of an electric motor slowly around the axis of the clock turns. Thus, the main spring of the automatic continuous tense.
In high-quality moving clocks can be found in the various rule Lift Programs (= rotation programs). Here lies the big difference to approve tenders: these programs are missing the elevator and even the possibility to define the direction of rotation. These programs can be the number of revolutions per day setting. We speak here of “Turns Per Day (TPD). If the interval between the individual turns too large, the clock before the next movement, and briefly loses its accuracy.
Also, there are different mechanisms or pathways, automatic watches watches on the move to fix. Many watches mover offer flexible cushion to the automatic stretches, and then in the corresponding device attached. Especially with very large clocks you should make sure if there are two pillows on the plate mover of the watches are attached, that it is not too close together. Otherwise, might affect the clock and due to the scratching motion.
On very good quality watches and you can move to your specific caliber concerted Lift Program.
When the number of revolutions / intervals per day for a particular watch model you should check the details of the watchmaker or follow the manufacturer. These can be found in the technical data sheet of the built-caliber as TPD. Nor is there the direction of rotation of the caliber specified.
Most automatic caliber need 650 to 900 TPD in the clocks move. However, there is also a new automatic work from glass, with only 450 TPD agents.
Old Auto Works would work with most watches mover overdrawn, so you’re here in a meaningful Einstellprogramme the manufacturer should look out for. In the newer calibers find exactly for this reason a towing spring, which, if the spring tension is too strong, harmless nachrutscht.
Statements that wristwatches with new resins various calibers, if you do not run, are nonsense, as today’s synthetic oils clocks and thus can not be resins. In older calibres, however this risk and thus the use of a watch movement from a technical point of view is recommended.
You should, however, in preference to all technology not forget that most watches movement also a delight for the eye are.
